Trees ready to be planted out in Madagascar

We’re Tree Planting in Madagascar

Conscious that we are sending pyjamas all over the country by post and very aware of the environmental damage caused by the associated carbon emissions that that entails, we have decided this year to invest in a project that will help reduce our carbon footprint.   As of March 2021 The Pyjama House has signed up to a monthly subscription to a Madagascan tree planting project.. and the more pyjamas we sell in the UK, the more trees we will be able to plant in Madagascar.

Why Madagascar?  Madagascar contains vast reforestation territory and is one of the few countries on our planet where the rate of rainfall still enables large-scale reforestation projects.

Trees planted in Madagascar have a carbon absorption capacity 10 to 15 times greater than those planted in highly developed regions of the globe.

We are donating via a company called Terra Neutra to a project run by Graine de Vie which was founded in Belgium in 2009. To date they have planted over 25 million trees resulting in an offset of 100,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

And it creates jobs.. Graine de Vie members work with local communities to plant, develop and monitor each of their reforestation projects. Each planting site is looked after by people from local villages,  so providing employment and helping improve the lives of the people living in the reforestation areas.

Graine de Vie has created 132 tree nurseries in 16 of the 22 regions of Madagascar and in 8 schools. They have also initiated 9 projects restoring mangrove trees and 11 projects protecting and restoring the national parks of Madagascar.
